Ada Blue – Pixels
So this is the last tune of ‘season 2’ of Contact Buzz. 40 demos in 6 months - it's crackers really. I'm gonna take a week off to level up Contact Buzz - More content, more ways to get involved and one or two surprises along the way. So give it up for our last act of the season, Ada Blue!
I booked out the Monomyth Room for this one, but due to scheduling issues, we were moved to the room upstairs, courtesy of Bob and Dom. We got set up, as usual, but what was unusual was Harry’s bunch of hollowed out Babybels. Called a ‘Bendo’ shaker according to the internet. It sounded cool though, I really liked the drums on this one, big dynamic shifts, from folky to heavy. Helped by Jamie’s (The Ada Blue guitarist, I don't tend to shift into talking in the third person) suggestion to pull out the old ‘Glyn Johns technique’, a classy move.
Laoise’s with volume swell bass, proper atmospheric stuff. We ran into a bit of an issue when we recorded Ada’s Acoustic. Just some real retaliating frequencies that other Jamie managed to work out - he was a gem all session. You know we double tracked that bad boy. When that acoustic comes in after the cymbals on the track… wowzers.
Then we finally put the mic in front of Jamie’s amp. Super clean, bluesy, a real treat. I was proper hungry by this point, so guitar tones like that just made me extra hungry. Ada’s vocals to tie it all together. Notes of Winehouse, Alex Turner even. A big dynamic range vocally to suit what we’d created. Lovely stuff!
