Zeta Point - Reckoning
It’s time for Zeta Point, who you may have noticed on Contact Buzz’s first tape release ‘A Contact Buzz Guide to… Regtown!’. Cobby has a huge back catalog of great songs, with ‘Reckoning’ being a rarity, using more traditional drum samples. Elise, Zetapoint’s keys player, couldn’t join us due to her commitments with Bathing Suits, but she was kind enough to let us use her bedroom to record.
First came the drum, bass and keys sample, which really reminded me of if Ray Manzarek played in Radiohead. What a collab! Then came the super layered acoustic I'm now famous for. A bit of chorus on one guitar and a bit of delay on the other, both dipped in reverb and bussed together. Lovely, like a McFlurry or something. I fell on my arse on the ice, running to get my mic stand from the car, but we dust ourselves off and carry on, don't we?
Then it was vocal time - Reverse reverb from the Cathedral and that same slapback delay from the DL4 - bizarre and awesome. Then things got crazy. The theremin, pushed through all the pedals we could muster for the wackiest solo in Contact Buzz history. Fuzzgun, Sea Machine, DL4, just everything. So fun just to mess around and see how messed up we can make something, but it ends up just sounding amazing.
Could have had this session done in an hour, but probably just spent most of it gabbing, just a thoroughly lovely bloke. Still yet to record with anyone who is not a stand up person.
