TONII – d0pamine

Now here’s something much more pop adjacent than what I'm usually involved in, but there is plenty to TONII’s music that makes it much more than the pop everyone else is doing. TONII is the keyboardist in Ludvik Langholm and along with a few other members who you may see on the channel at a later date, I somehow left a good impression on them and here we are a month or two later recording their personal projects.

Despite Ludvik’s folk influences, TONII is rooted in more hyperpop tendencies. Themes of Windows Vista, chrome (Not google) and late 2000s internet as a whole. It was Eiger again where we set the scene. Again, performance is the thing that separates us from the logic files, so seeing TONII and Lucas facing each other, moving to the music whilst punching in their parts in perfect harmony always feels very essential to the experience of our sessions.

With the vast chunk of the song already performed, we added Oliver’s range of guitar tones, from ocean-esque to gritty chimes. Every direction change (and this song has a lot of them) was met with different guitar disciplines, so a really varied performance. Then it was TONII’s vocals. Impressive vocals that were lathered in autotune, with moments of severe pitch shift and distortion made the track feel as much like a sound experiment as a catchy pop song. It also reminded me a bit of Rocket League, so it gets my vote!
