Lula - Radcliffe
The first release this month is the fantastic, Lula! Off the back of her mesmerising Hangover Session at the Hyde Park Book Club Snug, Lula expressed an interest of recording lo-fi music to Private Reg, who pointed her in my direction. A few weeks later we set the 4-track up in Lula’s living room and gave her partner Sam the role of documenting the process.
Charity shop finds from Revive were the instruments of choice, with a bargain drum sound and then a swelling synth coming from the keyboard. Extra rhythm added with a finger strummed acoustic and topped off with answering machine vocals. Lo-fi to its absolute core – it’s innocent, self-deprecating and beautify melancholic. A story of depression, reflection and solitude – it’s a must listen.
