Eeade - They Were Only Bodies

The heat doesn’t let up. Especially not in these flats with the big windows facing the sun. Sertraline doesn’t really let me cool down either so for whole sessions I’ve just been sweating buckets. But my love for Lofi keeps me pushing on. Today we showcase Eeade, an act that peaked my interest through their theatrical whimsy and punk minimalism.

Coffee tables are the perfect place to put a 4-track. I'm surprised more homes don't come ready packed with them honestly, it’s where we started the Eeade session - plugging into a practice amp that really didn’t want to do anything we told it to. Sometimes they are the best amps, but when you're just trying to play a C chord and it sounds more like a car radio slightly de-collaborated, it’s not really what you want - is it? But it sorted itself out and between the amp and the Sea Machine Chorus, we got a real ‘seventeen seconds’ Cure vibe. Tasty!

A song of two sections, the strutting verses and the frollicking bridges. The way that Eeade tells the story, you can’t help but feel like you're in a fairy tale, but one that involves more than a few flickering lights. With a focus on minimalism, we made sure the vocals took center stage, with one at2020 vocal and one telephone vocal, the latter with whispered, spoken and fried vocals. Delay was our biggest companion in this recording, like chemtrails to the words.

Even the jar of Fideo (broken pieces of pasta, popular in Catalonia and other Spanish Regions) wasn’t safe from the DL4. The track reminded me a little of the album version of ‘My Valuable Hunting Knife’, so when I saw the jar of broken carbs, I knew what we had to do. I love a tune that doesn’t root you down with a bass or full kit. Feels like you’re flying around the room, untethered, especially when it’s dead whimsical too. Top notch!
