Willie was someone I wanted to record immediately once I had the idea for Contact Buzz, I loved his style of guitar playing and I knew he would be up for experimenting. Technically the first Contact Buzz session, but kind of falls into the proto Contact Buzz era.

We recorded this over two sessions, after I realised the error of not cleaning my 4-track, which got dirtier as the first session went on. The very first thing we recorded over the two sessions was this record. You can hear me moving around the mic, but he played it so perfectly and beautifully, this had to be the version I used.

Later I recorded my attempt at a Daniel Johnston vocal performance, filled with innocence and wide eyed optimism. The story of a man who comes to a new city but finds nothing but reasons to leave.
