Ludvik Langholm - Ild og Vann
Ludvik Langholm is an exciting Norwegian songwriter from the Conservatoire with an eclectic rotation of musicians at his disposal, making for widely varied and unpredictable live shows. When being asked to record his band, I was first of all worried I couldn’t fit all of the rich instrumentation I’d seen in their live shows and begrudgingly had to cut instruments such as harp, mandolin and other voices out of the session.
However, we still managed to get a huge sound. The dynamics of the short piece gives one of the most explosive moments I've recorded. The change in tone as the second part is ushered in really gives it that GBV moment I always search for, like ‘Pimple Zoo’. The lead guitar rips, no other way of saying it. We had a few hairy moments, I thought I recorded over the whole song at one point and had to work on the intro separately to the actual song.
The song just scratches so many itches for me though, its brief, its massive but condensed and the sincere vocal performance just ties it all together.
