Lewis Hill - Anyone
So you may have never heard of the artist Lewis Hill. Never seen him on any lineups or spotify. That is because he has never shared his music before and I was privileged enough for him to get in touch and share his music with me. Lewis is a quiet, mild mannered lovely lad from Headingley who loves Guided by Voices, The Replacements and Mission of Burma. He’s basically me apart from the Headingley bit.
I recruited Contact Buzz fan favourite, Rowan, to elevate the track with his adaptive drumming ability and we headed down to Eiger. We chose a song Lewis claimed to have ripped on the song ‘Goldheart Mountain Top Queen Directory’ (A song I've actually seen live). Short and simple, but a right earworm. I really love the snappy drum tone on this one, always getting a good tone from Rowan.
I also got to get my hands dirty, playing bass, with the chorus being a classic Jamie bassline, if you're familiar with those. Really lovely acoustic picking from Lewis, feels so quintessentially indie, like an REM riff. Vocals I could tell Lewis was nervous about, I love his tone, but I don’t think being a singer was on Lewis’ radar - so this could be a rare documentation of his vocal in years to come!
It’s stripped back, it's to the point and earnest, it's pure songwriting and I play it on repeat. Oh and I play the little echo-y lead parts - Lewis shouldn't have given me so much creative freedom, but I do love to collaborate!
If you enjoyed the song and wanted to start a project, do get in touch with Lewis - Mild-mannered people unite!
